What is Reiki and How Does it Work?

What is Reiki?

What is Reiki?

Reiki is an energy healing practice developed in the early 20th century by Japanese martial artist and healer Mikao Usui.

It’s a grounded and practical system that uses the Reiki practitioner’s ability to draw external energy into themselves then emit this energy from their hands as a coherent electromagnetic field for healing purposes.

What is the Origin of Reiki?

Mikao Usui developed his Reiki method after a fasting retreat at a temple on Mount Kurama, when he had the idea of channeling external energy for direct healing. He applied this to his Ki Ko teaching (see note 1), which then evolved over time into Reiki. Reiki is now taught and practiced around the world in many forms, each with its own theory and techniques, many in the lineage of Mikao Usui.

How Does Reiki Work?

Active Reiki describes the method of Reiki developed by my Reiki teacher Andy Chrysostomou to increase and optimise the healing outcomes of Reiki. It uses Reiki energy with appropriate intention and visualisation to increase the effectiveness of the treatment (see note 2). By understanding the client’s illness/injury, we can develop an effective intention and visualisation which we use during the treatment to enhance the healing effects of the energy.

There are over 100 Reiki styles and ways of channelling the Universal (Rei) Energy (Ki). The way the energy is accessed, channelled and used, as well as the frequency of the energy also varies significantly between styles and produce significantly different results.

Notes:

1. Ki Ko is the Japanese name for Qi Gong. One of the aspects of Ki Ko is healing. The practitioner can project healing energy from their hands. Ki ko requires much practice over a lengthy period of time for the practitioner to be able to project Ki (energy).

2. EFFECTS OF INTENTIONALITY ON DNA SYNTHESIS IN CULTURED TUMOR CELLS (1992) Dr Glen Rein, Ph.D. (Quantum Biology Research Labs)

The study used a healer Leonard Laskow with a non-healer as a control. Healing was applied to tumour cells in petri dishes using energy, energy plus intention, energy plus visualization and energy plus intention and visualization. The study found that using an effective intention and visualisation together with the energy healing can give a 39% inhibition of cancer cell growth.
